Paul is Chairman of the Rim Stinger Handicap Committee. Self-appointed, Paul has held the position since the tournament started. He chairs the committee in much the same way Margaret Thatcher used to chair her cabinet meetings. Meetings are held once a year in the last few weeks before the tournament where players present pleading excuses for their handicap to be raised or at least treated gently with tales of woeful current form, injuries, marital disputes and / or new additions to the family. One by one the CHC reviews the petitions and dispatches them straight back past the bowler for four. Emergency Handicap Committee (EHC) meetings are generally held on Rim Stinger eve when any player foolish enough to have been striking the ball well (or even to have simply hit a good shot seen by the CHC or one of his 15 course spotters) in Friday's team round will see their handicap violated. Not much to say about his golf though. Agricultural.
Rather like the OCC, however, there is ability buried in there somewhere, and so it was that in 2009, Paul's game came together for a glorious score of 36 points, including an astronomic 23 on the back nine for him to win the Rim Stinger. 36 remains the record high score for a Rim Stinger win. Since then Paul has struggled to regain form and in 2013 picked up the Bag o' Shite, which led to extraordinary scenes as he fitted himself into the BoS shirt.
The CHC receiving his trophy and jacket in 2009, regrettably about to launch into another lengthy speech.
