RS XXI, 2024 - K Club Dublin

A few notable mentions: 

• RS XXI was the closest Rim Stinger in history. With four holes to go there were just five points between top and bottom.

• B. Toner’s maiden Rim Stinger has propelled him from a lowly (and unworthy) 17th spot in the index all the way to a more fitting 5th. He also maintained and even extended his remarkable record in Rim Stinger rounds of averaging over 30 points and now has four out of five top three finishes (the blemish being a fifth place). One for the CHC to muse upon.

• RBJ’s share of the money win puts him within striking distance of the OCC’s money-winner record. Unfortunately the OCC is now also within striking distance of RBJ’s Bag O’Shite record (although one of the issues with the OCC is not knowing exactly what his striking distance is). The narrowing of these longstanding records between these two RS founders underlines their diverging golfing form in recent years. Another one for the CHC to muse upon.

• S Olliver had a highly successful weekend plundering the pairs, a share of the money win (courtesy of a memorable chip in birdie on the 18th), the par 5 award and a NTP. With 30 points he also had the highest average score of the weekend. He moves back onto the RS index podium at the expense of V Holmes. Definitely one for the CHC to muse upon.

• M Noonan finally tasted major glory with a pairs win (the Carabao Cup of the majors, but a major nonetheless). He stays perplexingly low at 12th spot in the index (reflecting his wobbliness in the majors) but has narrowed the gap to the Top 10.

• An entirely blank Rim Stinger was endured by R Aylmer, J Lourtie (very unusual but he maintains his 2nd place in the Index) and J Willson. The latter extended his own record run of attendances without a victory to 16 years

• Without the professionals – Wagenhofer and Holmes – in attendance this year the longest drive and nearest the pin awards were shared round more evenly. The OCC recorded a long drive award by virtue of being the only player to hit the fairway in question (albeit via a violent ricochet from a tree positioned left of left)

• D Lake continued his long march to positivity with another 0.02 gained through his non-attendance strategy
