The success and solemn promises of the first year were backed up when only six people turned up to grapple for the trophy in 2005. Some would say this lowered the bar and made this an easy year, and those people would be right. This was the year that Richie Jones got his name on the trophy after being awarded a generous handicap reflecting his stratospheric scores from the inaugural Rim Stinger The defending champion was back, however, and brought with him a newly minted trophy and blazer to lord it over the group, and in the end no one was unhappy that he lost his title, until Richie put on the blazer...
This was also the year the Rim Stinger tennis championships started. Some saw this as a sideshow to the main event, but for the first time Richard Aylmer and James Stewart united in an as yet undefeated pairing. It's fair to say that for these players, the golf became the sideshow. You have to take your glory when and where you can.
